Locate and select values within a Select Value list

Select Value pop-up lists allow you to select values to filter reports or columns with and some contain hundreds of items. To make it easier to locate the values you want to use, follow these instructions.

Select Value lists can be displayed on the Variable Entry screen or within a report. To display a Select Values list in a filter dialog, click the pop-up list icon (see highlighted red circle below) in that field.

To enter a specific value without picking from the list (see graphic below)
If you know the exact value you want (for example, a transaction number or customer account ID) it is not necessary to pick it from the Select Values list. Instead you can type the value.
To enter a specific value you want to locate.

Type the exact value in the field at the bottom of the Select Values dialog box labeled "Enter a value for xxxx" (where "xxxx" is the field name).

Use a wildcard search in the Select Values list
If the list of values in the box is long you can use a special filter option with a character string and wildcard character to locate value(s). See graphic below. To do this:

Click into the blank top line of the Select Values list (there is a funnel icon in the left most column of this row). Note that not all Select Value lists have the filter option. Those that do have a blank line at the top of the list.
Enter the character string with a wildcard character (*) before and/or after if (for example: *payables or Smith Electric*).
Press Enter to execute the wildcard search.

To remove a value from the selection list
If you have added a value to the Selections list (on the right) to use as a filter, but decide you do not want to including it, you can remove it following these steps:

Click the item on the right side of the Select Values dialog box (Selections list)
Click the Remove button in the middle.

To Execute your filter selections

Once you have entered your values, click OK at the bottom of the Select Values for xxxx" dialog box to execute them.
Click Cancel to discard your selection values.
