How to Backup and Restore Sage MAS Intelligence.Possible Resolution:
This will backup both the current Alchemex.svd file and the Templates folder in a location specified. Later a specific Template file (*.XLT) and/or the Alchemex.svd file could be restored.
Backup Method:
- Open MAS Intelligence Report Manager.
- Click on File and select Backup MetaData and Templates.
- Click 'Yes' when prompted "To Backup your MetaData and Templates Sage MAS Intelligence must shut down. Do you wish to continue?".
- A Windows Explorer type window will be opened called "Select a backup file path".
- Notice the only 'Save as type' field value at the bottom of the window: CAB File (*.cab). CAB is short for Cabinet and is actually a standard Windows file type. Browse for a proper location and enter any relevant name here. The file will automatically be created with the .cab extension.
- Click Save.
- Select 'OK' on the Backup System Data prompt window that appears.
- Once the Backup completes successfully click 'OK'.
Restore Method:
- Close any open Sage MAS Intelligence tasks.
- From the Windows Taskbar, right click on Start.
- Select Explore.
- Find the location of the backup file (*.cab).
- Double click on the file.
- The alchemex.svd and all the Template files will be displayed.
- Right click on the alchemex.svd or any specific Microsoft Excel Template files (*.XLT).
- Select Extract.
- Browse to the correct destination on the 'Select a Destination' window and select the Extract button.
- Alternatively, when double clicking on the .cab file, simply copy the alchemex.svd file or any specific Template file and paste it into the relevant location on the registered server in the Metadata Folder.
Additional Info:
- The Backup and Restore method will not be locked to a specific client but that client must have MAS 500 installed with sufficient licensing.
- The most current Product Update does not need to be applied if you are backing up metadata and templates.
- You do not need to re-register the MAS 500 client after restoring if the client has sufficient SMI Licensing already. SMI Licensing is controlled through the MAS 500 business desktop.
- Restored Security Settings will still be intact as long as the users in MAS 500 remain the same.
- It is best practice to perform the backup first and then clear out ALL files in the restore location, prior to the restore.
