"Unrecognized database format" when launching FRx

Entry Type: Informational
Product: FRx
Application: n/a
Version Reported: 5.5
Subject:
"Unrecognized database format" when launching FRx
Possible Resolution:
FRx attempts to repair the file that is corrupted. If FRx is unsuccessful, a message displays that the repair or compact has failed.
If this happens, have the client compress and e-mail the F32 file in question and do the following:
- Attempt to open the database (after unzipping it) and DO NOT CONVERT IT if you are asked by MS Access.
- If using MS Access 2000 and are successful in opening the database, choose: Tools / Database Utilities / Compact and Repair Database.
Note: If you are using MS Access 97 and are successful in opening the database, there are two steps since the Compact and Repair functions are separate.
- Tools / Database Utilities / Repair Database
- Tools / Database Utilities / Compact Database
After the database has been compacted and repaired, recompress it and e-mail it back to the client to see if the problem has been corrected. Be sure they are putting it back in the correct folder on their system.
If the database supplied by the customer cannot be opened or if the compacted and repaired database sent back to the customer does not correct the problem, they must have the F32 file restored from a system or network backup.
If the file needs to be restored, explain to the customer that there is the chance of data loss depending on the age of the backup. F32 files contain the Specification Sets used to build reports. If any changes have been made to Rows, Columns, Trees or Catalogs or new reports created between the time of the backup and the file corruption, those changes and/or new reports must be recreated.
