How to upgrade FRx to version 6.5

Possible Resolution:

  1. Install FRx version 6.5 at a workstation or server where the old version of FRx is installed.
  2. Install the FRx program files and sysdata to a separate directory.
  3. Select to install either a local client or all components. If installing all components, verify that the correct components are selected for the installation.
  4. In the Multiple Versions Detected window, select the version of FRx to be upgraded.
  5. In the Choose Destination Location window, select the new directory.
  6. In the Location of SysData Files window, select the new location.
  7. If installing all components, enter the path for the client setup directory.
Note: This is normally located in the ..\FRx\ directory selected in step 5.
  8. Click Yes at the "You have selected to use a different SysData directory for version 6.5 from the previous version. Do you want to upgrade your specs set from your older version for use with the newer version?" message.

If FRx is not currently installed on the workstation or server where the installation is being performed, then proceed with the following steps:

  1. Back up the ..\SysData\ directory.
  2. Back up the FRxPRTS.F32 file separately if it is not located in the..\SysData\ directory.
Note: This is the file that contains all the rows, columns, and trees, located in the ..\Sysdata\ directory.
  3. In FRx:
    1. On the Company menu, point to Information, and then click Find.
    2. Select a company, and verify the name of the specification set.
  4. On the Company menu, point to Specification Sets. Verify the location and file name.
Note: When installing FRx, every path must point to a new directory including a new Sysdata directory. The older Sysdata directory must not be used.
  5. Rename ..\SysData\FRxRPTS.F32 in the new directory, copy the FRxRPTS.F32 file from the backup, and save it in the new ..\SysData\ directory.
  6. On the Company menu, point to Information, and then click New.
  7. Create the new company. For more information, see How to set up a new company in FRx
Note: Set up all other company codes later through this option.
  8. If using a specification set other than "Default", create a new specification set as follows:
    1. On the Company menu, point to Specification Sets, and then click New. Enter the new specification set name and description. Browse to the FRxRPTS.F32 file, and click Save.
    2. On the Company menu, point to Information, and then click Find. Select the company.
    3. In the Specification Set field, select the newly created specification set name.
  9. On the Admin menu, click Organization. Enter the registration information. For details, see How to register FRx
