Subject:
How to install FRx 6.0 on a stand alone system, locally with a shared SysData or on a server with a client setup.
Possible Resolution:
FRx Financial Reporter can be installed by three different methods:
- Stand alone with a local SysData (fat client)
- Local with a shared SysData (fat client)
- Network with shared executable and Sysdata files (thin client)
Note: A thin client environment is recommended.
Warning: Do not run any FRx Financial Reporter applications while installing FRx Financial Reporter.
A fat client installation is typically used when there is a single-user license or to minimize dependency on the network. The networked, thin client installation is the most common configuration in a multi-user environment because it minimizes space used on the workstations and makes maintenance and upgrades easier to perform.
The FRx compact disc contains installation instructions for FRx Designer, FRx Report Server, FRx Web, FRx Report Launcher, FRx DrillDown Viewer, and FRx Web Administrator
Before installing FRx Financial Reporter, please review the following installation options:
FRx 6.0 Installation Overview:
Client
The Client installation covers the installation of the FRx Designer, FRx DrillDown Viewer and the FRx Report Launcher. When Client is used, the appropriate installation type needs to be selected. There are three types available:
- Typical
Typical will install the most common options: FRx Designer, FRx DrillDown Viewer, and FRx Report Launcher. It will not install the FRx Web Administrator.
During the installation, specify a directory where program files should reside. If setting the workstation as a fat client, select a directory on the local drive.
Note:
- If drive mapping is used, make sure all other workstations are mapped to the same share on the network with the same drive letter.
- If this installation type is on the file server, select a UNC path for installation.
- Specify a SysData directory. This location is used for storing FRx Financial Reporting company information, report specifications, and supporting FRx files. To share FRx reports and companies between multiple users, the SysData destination folder must be on a shared network drive.
- Compact
Compact will install FRx Financial Reporting with the minimum required options. This type of the installation is used to set a workstation as a thin client.
Prior to using this type of installation, there must be an existing installation of FRx 6.0 on a shared network drive. The installation routine installs and verifies system files necessary for using FRx on this workstation and creates a Program Folder that points to the FRx application on the server.
During the installation, select the location of existing FRx files on the shared network directory. The FRx installation routine will not overwrite these files. It needs to know this file location in order to set up shortcuts on the workstation.
Custom
Custom installation provides the choice to select all or just some of the FRx components for installation on a workstation. Each are described in the following list.
- FRx Designer. Select this option to install the FRx Designer, the application to create, maintain, and generate reports. It also installs the FRx DrillDown Viewer to view FRx reports and drill down to subsequent transaction detail level. Additionally, the FRx Report Launcher, which can be used with the FRx Report Server, is installed.
- FRx Drill Down Viewer Only. Select this option to install the FRx DrillDown Viewer only. It is recommended to install the DrillDown Viewer on a local drive. When installing DrillDown Viewer, the installation program installs DrillDown program files and system files, and creates a program folder with a shortcut.
Please note that if a previously installed FRx Designer is on this workstation, the DrillDown Viewer does not need to be installed separately.
- FRx Report Launcher Only. Select this option to install the Report Launcher only. The Report Launcher only works in conjunction with the Report Server. In addition, you must previously have installed FRx Designer on a network shared directory before installing Report Launcher on a workstation. For best results, install these files locally on each workstation.
Please note that if you previously installed FRx Designer on this workstation, you do not need to install the Report Launcher separately.
