Notes:
- Use extreme caution when editing the registry. If the registry is edited incorrectly, Windows may not function properly or may not run at all. Sage Software Customer Support is not responsible for assisting with editing the registry. Always back up the registry before accessing it. If necessary, seek the assistance of a qualified computer technician.
- This article applies only if most or all .DLL registrations fail with the administrator logon. The resolution affects the entire HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder in the registry. Do not perform these steps if the registration fails only on certain files or the user was not logged in as administrator.
Permissions to the computer have been generally affected. Modify the permissions for the Interface and TypeLib keys in the registry editor.
- Log on to the computer as an administrator.
- Run the registry editor (regedt32).
- Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
- Right-click Interface.
- Select Permissions to open the Permissions for Interface window.
- If Administrators is listed in Group or user names, skip to step 8.
- Click the Add button; at the Look in field, select the computer name.
- Select Administrators. Click Add and then click OK.
- Give the Administors group full permissions.
- Select Administrators in Group or user names, and select the Full Control box in the Allow column.
- Click the Advanced button, and select the Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions check box.
- Click OK, and click Yes at the confirmation prompt.
- Click OK at any messages that appear regarding not being able to change permissions on a specific key.
- Click OK at the Permissions for Interface window.
- Right-click TypeLib under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, and repeat the above steps.
- Close the registry editor and register the .DLL and .OCX files.
